There was a time when I believed making art required the perfect setup.
A dedicated studio.
Hours of uninterrupted time.
Every supply neatly organized and ready to go.
The problem was, that wasn’t my life.
As a stay-at-home dad, my days revolved around homeschooling my son, supporting my wife’s ever-changing work schedule, running a small business, and trying to squeeze creativity into whatever time remained.
Like many artists, I found myself asking the same question over and over again:
How do I keep creating when life is busy?
I realized the biggest obstacle wasn’t a lack of passion.
It was friction.
Sometimes getting everything out felt like more work than making the art itself. Other times I only had ten or fifteen minutes, and by the time I was ready to paint, that time was already gone.
So instead of waiting for more time…
I started changing my tools.
What began as handmade sketchbooks and a simple pencil case slowly evolved into designing my own creative systems. Every product came from a real problem I was trying to solve in my own artistic practice.
How could I carry less?
How could I set up faster?
How could I make it easier to paint wherever I happened to be?
I never set out to become a product designer.
I simply wanted to make it easier to keep creating.
Over time I began sharing those ideas with other artists, and something unexpected happened.
The challenges I was trying to solve weren’t unique to me.
They were challenges many artists were facing.
Each conversation, every piece of feedback, and every new design has helped shape Arts to Embers into what it is today.
When I design something, I’m not trying to create the perfect product.
I’m trying to create thoughtful tools that remove barriers between artists and the joy of making art.
That’s why you’ll find more than products here.
You’ll find the stories behind them.
The experiments that didn’t work.
The ideas I’m still exploring.
The lessons I’m learning along the way.
Because I believe creativity isn’t about having the perfect setup.
It’s about making the most of the time you have.
If something I design helps you create a little more often, carry your supplies a little more easily, or find a few extra minutes to make art, then Arts to Embers has accomplished exactly what I hoped it would.
Thanks for being here.
I’m glad you’re part of the journey.
